Under the hood of both cars lies a version of the n55 3 0 liter turbocharged engine that uses one twin scroll turbocharger twinpower in bmw speak.

What engine does the bmw m2 have. One of the biggest reasons why fans love the bmw m2 is its engine. Bmw m2 in november 2015 bmw unveiled their high performance version of the 2 series the m2 with sales beginning in 2016 and only being available as a 2 door coupe. In the m235i power is at 320 hp and 330 lb ft.

18 19 the competition replaced the standard car in 2018 20 21 with the cs being revealed in november 2019 and sales beginning in march 2020 with 2 200 units planned. An outgrowth of the n55 line of turbocharged inline sixes the m2 s 365 hp engine shares its pistons crank bearings and redline smooching spirit with the m4 s 425 hp s55 powerplant. Unlike the s55 engine in the bmw m3 m4 the m2 s n55 feels like an old school bmw i6 that loves to rev and makes a snarling.

The more common inline four and v8 layouts are also produced by bmw and at times the company has produced inline three v10 and v12 engines. Prototype v16 engines have been made however they. Bmw engines are known by their m n b s p or w codes while bmw chassis and bodies are known by their e f or g codes.

But as the range of bmw engines expanded they needed a more meaningful code designation.
